11/11
On This Veterans Day,
Let us remember the sacrifices of those who wrote their
individual lives off for the good of this country.
Throughout his life my father has worn many hat; son,
brother, husband, dad (my personal favorite), policeman, constable, fireman,
and politician just to name a few. My favorite to use against the middle school
bullies however was Marine. “My dad can beat up your dad” was typical talk in
my 6th grade classroom. When we think of the U.S. Armed forces we
have an almost romantic view of what it means. Men in uniform leaving on ships,
bags in hand leaving behind wives and young children; then returning months
later to come and sweep them off of their feet. Sadly, this is not the case for
most. Millions of men and women come back from war with Traumatic Brain
Injuries (TBI’s) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Divorce and suicide
rates of veterans are skyrocketing and families are being torn apart, leaving
lives in shambles. These are just a few of the sacrifices that Veterans have
made and continue to make. War is a word I cannot begin to fathom. Peace is a
word that I deeply know. I owe this to all of the U.S. veterans who keep us
safe from harm. The battles that these men and women continuously face for the
safety of our homeland is without a doubt priceless.
To all veterans, thank you for your
selflessness and dedication. We see you and appreciate you on this day, and all
days. However, particularly on this 11/11, know that we also see your struggles
and understand how real they are. No matter rank, position, or title, at the
end of the day we all need someone to fight for us.
With
all due respect and honor
-Chase
